My Favourite Cruelty-Free Beauty Products

For the past few posts I’ve been sharing my favourite vegetarian recipes, as animal welfare and the environment are issues close to my heart. However, reducing animal consumption isn’t only something we can do in the kitchen…

Did you know that Canada’s Food and Drugs Act prohibits the sale of any cosmetic containing harmful ingredients or contaminants, but does not prohibit animal testing of products or chemicals (even though 27 countries of the European Union have successfully banned cosmetic animal testing and their products are still flying off of Sephora’s shelves). C’mon Canada!

Also, beware of marketing tactics in Canada! Based on Canada’s consumer Packaging and Labelling Act,  “Not Tested on Animals” means “the cosmetic product was not tested on animals, but does not guarantee that the individual ingredients were not tested on animals.”  Like WHAT? So sneaky!

With that being said, here is a list of some of my favourite Cruelty-Free Products:

Too Faced, Hangover Replenishing Face Primer

Vegan & Cruelty-Free

This product smells so good! Like a sundae for your skin. It goes on smooth, and leaves a natural feeling finish to apply foundation (not slippery or silicon-like like some other primers)

Hourglass, Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation

Vegan & Cruelty-Free

I LOVE this foundation!!! It’s a bit on the pricy side of things, and needs to be applied quickly as it dries. However, its mattifying, good for oily zones, and lasts ALL DAY on my skin without any touch ups or powder! It works best with a primer and put on with a foundation brush and it comes in many shades.

Anastasia Beverly Hills, Brow Wiz

Vegan & Cruelty-Free

Brows are strong with this one! This comes in many shades, and with a fine tip and spoolie to make brows look both defined and natural.

Kat Von D

Vegan & Cruelty-Free

Voted best of the year 2017 on, it’s 100% vegan, and it stays in place all day! No black lines on your top of your eyelids! #WIN  It goes on easy with the fine tip brush, and makes the perfect cat-eye. Meow.

Too Faced, Better Than Sex Mascara

Vegan & Cruelty-Free

Put down whatever mascara you’re using and get this! Too Faced outdid themselves with this mascara leaving you with long luscious lashes.  Its curved curved bristles coat every lash and give you length without clumps! (Tip: If your mascara is drying out, try adding a few drops of contact lens solution and shake, Voila! Like new!)

Too Faced, Love Flush Long-Lasting 16 hour Blush

Vegan & Cruelty-Free

Limited in colours, but definitely gives a natural rosy-cheek look. You don’t need a lot of product with this one as it’s super pigmented, so a little goes a long way, and it seems to last forever!

Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm

ACTUALLY AMAZING!!! It takes off all makeup, smells like key lime pie, and leaves your skin so soft! Derived from natural ingredients and is perfect for all skin types.

Tata Harper, Clarifying Mask

Who doesn’t love a good green face mask? It smells like eucalyptus and goes on easily with a bush. Once on, it doesn’t dry on the skin and contains quartz sand microcrystals to exfoliate when washing off. I noticed a difference in my skin after only 3 uses. This is a great product!

Farmacy, Honey Drop Lightweight Moisturizer

This is a great lightweight moisturizer! It’s so smooth and nourishing. It contains honey (which is known to help reduce redness in the skin), and it soaks in without any greasy feeling. I also love this product for its “FARMACY Gives Back” initiative.

“As part of our mission to foster an appreciation for naturally derived and farmer cultivated ingredients and bring attention to the importance of honeybees to our food supply, we’re donating $1.00 for every honey product sold through December 2017 to City Growers for the development of their Bee Education program.

City Growers is a nonprofit with the mission to close fundamental gaps in the experiences of city kids: exploration of the natural world and understanding of where our food comes from.

Cake, The Wave Maker

Vegan & Cruelty-Free

How do I like my eggs? In a cake…Ever dreamt of being a mermaid, with beautiful beach waves and shine? Not only does this product both smell great, it doesn’t dry out your hair like regular sea-salt sprays, and it’s MADE IN CANADA!!!! Another reason I love it is because it is not an aerosol spray which is way better for the environment!

Aveda, Rosemary Mint Shampoo & Conditioner

Wake up your senses with the invigorating scent of rosemary and peppermint.  This duo leaves hair feeling very clean, even with only a dime size amount of product. I love Aveda for more than just their products, they are committed to Environmental Sustainability and uses 100% wind-power to manufacture their products.

Do you have any favourite cruelty-free products?

Have you tried any that I’ve listed? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Um I need to buy ALL of these!! Ive tried Aveda, but its too gentle on my hair (even with two shampoo washes) so I had to opt for something different – which I was sad about because its a great product.
I NEED to try Kat Von D’s eyeliner!! Ive had my eye on it forever lol
Really interested in some of the face products you mention! Shopping spree much?

    1. OKAY, The Kat Von D liner will change your life.
I don’t wear eyeliner often, mostly because my make-up routine is lazy. But this one is to easy to use, and doesn’t smudge!
I love all of the Farmacy products (even some that I didn’t mention on here!)
